Walk after walk

become the days.

The path is our path.

Geese rising to the sky’s

microphone will fade

from this refuge

someday, but what leaves

our story, one stowaway

to another, is as much

our story as what stays.

We knew the path

would lead to the lake

flooded with sunlight

until the water vanishes.
