Walk after walk
become the days.
The path is our path.
Geese rising to the sky’s
microphone will fade
from this refuge
someday, but what leaves
our story, one stowaway
to another, is as much
our story as what stays.
We knew the path
would lead to the lake
flooded with sunlight
until the water vanishes.
Yvonne Morris is the author of three chapbooks of poetry: Mother was a Sweater Girl (The Heartland Review Press), Busy Being Eve (Bass Clef Books), and Small Animals and Other Poems (forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in 2026).
