This long brick road is not yellow.

It’s cream and coffee and bitter and covered in crows. When my red toes tap, it’s sticky-sweet
anger that rings in the air. Buzz of a thousand insects. Bricks layered with plaster that dried too
fast. There’s no lion but I do see a coward or two. One way door into the office building every
morning and no exit sign. No way for the monkeys to find home. I’ve tried but it’s hard because
houses fall quickly. Houses fall hard and people fall harder, scraping knees they thought were
strong enough to withstand the storm. Do you see an end? I’m starting to think the emerald city
might just be the subway station flooding.
