Stars are clever traps

holding me in the past

and pressed firmly against myself.

And yet so ensnared

I wrap the sheet of speckled black about my wide

to feel

small

so that I might convince some colossus

that I am not a burden

and can survive, botherless,

in their spacious heart

without notice

if only they'd do the kindness

to not snuff me out.
