Puzzle

By: Amelia Blaska

It’s okay if you must act like you have pieced the puzzle together.

Amelia Blaska was born to do two things: to teach and to write. Immediately upon graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1999, with a major in English and a minor in Spanish, she sought and accepted a teaching position at her alma mater, The Westminster Schools, located in Atlanta, Georgia, and where for six years she taught English and Creative Writing, coached cross-country and track, and wore a plethora of administrative and creative hats. From 2005-2006, she taught English, coached cross-country and track, and sponsored several school events at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, also located in Atlanta, Georgia. After seven years as a classroom instructor, Amelia felt the urge to further her own education, which she intuitively knew would be a legal one. However, she also knew that she never wanted to give up teaching. So, an established teacher with a solid niche network and the ability to tutor a variety of subjects and to prepare students for several standardized tests (SSAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT), she began building a private tutoring clientele in 2006. That same September, in 2007, Amelia enrolled at Emory University, where in April of 2008, she received her paralegal certification, after which she worked for several prestigious plaintiff and defense firms in the metro Atlanta area. Not surprisingly, Amelia maintained her tutoring ventures throughout her years as a litigation paralegal, executive assistant and office manager in the corporate realm, and she remains forever grateful to her employers who enabled and encouraged her to do so. In August of 2018, Amelia took a leap of faith and started her own full-time tutoring business, expanding far beyond her original niche network, and where she also took on many more students as a personal writing and ESL instructor. More importantly, she began writing again. Working for herself was a genuine game changer for Amelia because it was through this experience she rediscovered where and how she truly excels, what challenges and leaves her inspired and fulfilled, and what she must specifically seek, honor, and protect.
