I think about the depths of the Greek bucolic

And how the breath of life is brief but symbolic,

with lushness and richness and fatness and pleasure

of timing and rhythm among grandiose measures.

I know some perennial plants like a plum or an apple,

to be picked and kissed or thrown to the cattle,

to be sustaining and present but then go away,

to be longed for in the branches of winter’s winds sway;

and so I like to feel similar when it comes to passion,

the lulls between lovers are half of its fashion.
