daily she drowned

her mother called and asked

where I was


her sister called and told me

to go fuck myself


her husband called

and stumbled around the weather

then sobbed

then words that didn’t make sense

then an abrupt cold goodbye


I remember her 33rd birthday

we celebrated the symmetry

the bed was so warm

and the floor after cold

life so good it hurt


and one time I thought she called

she said it was OK

but then her sister called again

and told me that other truth
